Biography
Tim has been a serious musician since he became a competent guitarist at the age of 9. Since then he has been classically trained and earned a Masters Degree. His real passion however, was to be a respected rock shred style guitarist. His influences being Jimi Hendrix, Jake Lee, Paul Gilber, Jason Becker, Steve Vai, Ritchie Kotzen and Eddie Van Halen to name but a few.
By the age of 15, Tim was regularly playing the club circuit, and also did session work for various metal bands signed to Neat Records.
At just 18, he released his first official solo album showcasing his compositional and guitar virtuosity skills to the masses. From this, Tim won a nation guitar competition held by Dave Stewart of The Eurythmics and performed along side him live on national television. Tim was commissioned by Glen Maclory's (bantom weight champion boxer) management to write music for his acting show reel.
Tim then joined top Turkish rock band, Badluck, who were blown away by his technical ability on guitar. Having spent six months based in Istanbul, the band was offered a lucrative deal with RAKS, a tour with DOA.
Tim was then approached by Jess Coxx (singer from Tigers of Pan Tang) to join two bands he was managing, signed to Neat Records. They were Blitzkrieg, who were the band that influenced Metallica, who also covered Blitzkrieg's 'The Song'. He then had a stint with The Crisis Children, in which two of the members later went on to be Dubstar.
Through writing songs for The Crisis children, Tim developed his commercial song writing, music technology and production skills, mentored by some amazing cutting edge music producers who were working for EA Games and happened to be fans of the band. this later made him a credible self contained musician and saw him go on to working with producers such as Chris Nagal of Inspiral Carpets and The Charlatans, and John Ravenhall (Peter Andre and Sir Cliff Richard). He then created the Deadbeat Radicals featuring Ron Rosing from the Smashing Pumpkins and Freekstar, with the singer from The Crisis Children (Sharon Wilson) and both bands gained management development deals with Jam X and Craig Huxley Music.
These two projects gained excellent independent credibility on the underground scene with Radio 1 airplay on Steve Lamac, John peel, XFM and various ILRS. All of which were buzzing about their single releases through Organart, Blue Fire and The Wild Heart's label, Changes One.
Much of Tim's music at this time was used in TV and film when he became involved in the Brunswick VIZ comic book exhibition and worked as a sound designer on various VIZ projects, contributing music and working as a sound designer for Fat Slag, Johnny Fart Pants and Doctor Poo.
Having gained his qualifications, Tim has been commissioned to produce sound works in galleries across the country such as Baltic, DLI Museum, Tyne & Wear Museums, Liverpool Biennale, Nissan Car Plant, The Victor Passmore Pavilion and in New York's Broadway Gallery to name a few. He has worked as the lead artist on Tyne & Wear and London Science Museum's research project, Community Sound and Voices, in which he reinterpreted museum objects using sound and music for the blind and creating 5.1 sound installations.
Tim wrote the Newcastle United song, Shearer's Magnificent 11, for his testimonial which was signed up by Pinnacle Distribution and entered the Radio 1 independent singles chart at 21, despite much controversy beating the Arctic Monkeys.
